Dear skippers and participants,
On behalf of the J22 Class Netherlands board and EC 2026 organisation, we want to express our gratitude for your presence at the EK 2026 last week. Your kindness and enthusiasm contributed to an incredibly positive and memorable event. It was a pleasure to host such a wonderful group of sailors, and we are truly grateful for the energy and sportsmanship you brought to the event.

NSR Maandag dag 3, prijsuitreiking
De laatste dag alweer! We hebben de hele ochtend gezellig met de hele klasse gewacht tijdens de uren uitstel. Langzaam bouwde er een klein briesje op, maar van gisteren hadden we geleerd dat je met de stroming hier aan een klein briesje helaas niet genoeg hebt – tenminste, als je voor kerst de bovenboei wil ronden.
Toch zat de sfeer er op de steiger goed in. Sommige teams tuigden hun boten netjes op, andere wachtten wat langer af en weer andere maakten vast hun zeilen met zoet water schoon. Binnen werd gekaart, tactiek besproken en heel veel kopjes koffie gedronken.
Een zeilwedstrijd bleek er deze laatste dag helaas niet meer in te zitten. Maar de klasse liet zich vervolgens van haar beste kant zien met wat toch wel het nieuwe Europees record speedy sportboten kranen moet zijn: 17 boten in net iets meer dan een uur. Met alle zeilers, de EK-orga voorop, kraanden we als een geoliede machine in moordend tempo de ene na de andere J het water uit. Zonder dringen, zonder trailer- of bootrij, zonder geschreeuw of gevloek maar met alle energie, enthousiasme en saamhorigheid die we nog in ons hadden na alle koffie en het wachten.
Het grootste tijdverlies kwam van de kraanmachinist die even naar de wc moest. Wie even niets omhanden had, zocht verkoeling in de schaduw van de kraan. En Tim leerde ons ondertussen nog de wijsheid: met een lijn kan je niet duwen.
Daarna konden we in één ruk door naar de prijsuitreiking. Regerend Europees kampioen Fraporita mocht de wisselbokaal meteen weer mee naar huis nemen. Op de tweede plaats eindigde het Franse Jazzy en de Italianen van team Pestifera gingen er met de derde plaats vandoor. Gefeliciteerd!
Al met al was het een waanzinnig EK, met vier volle dagen zeilen, zomers weer en bovenal: een mega gezellige klasse. Dank organisatie van de NSR en het EK, dank alle vrijwilligers, en vooral: dank alle zeilers die dit weekend zo’n succes maakten!
NSR Monday day 3, award ceremony
It’s the last day already! We spent the entire morning waiting pleasantly with the whole class during the delay hours. A small breeze slowly built up, but we had learned from yesterday that with the current here, a small breeze is unfortunately not enough—at least, if you want to round the top buoy before Christmas.
Nevertheless, the atmosphere on the jetty was great. Some teams rigged their boats neatly, others waited a bit longer, and still others started cleaning their sails with fresh water. Inside, people were playing cards, discussing tactics, and drinking lots of cups of coffee.
Unfortunately, a sailing race turned out not to be possible on this final day. But the class subsequently showed its best side with what must surely be the new European record for speedy sports boat cranes: 17 boats in just over an hour. With all the sailors, led by the EC organizers, we craned one J after another out of the water like a well-oiled machine at a killing pace. Without pushing and shoving, without a queue for trailers or boats, without shouting or cursing, but with all the energy, enthusiasm, and camaraderie we still had left after all the coffee and waiting.
The biggest time loss came from the crane operator who had to go to the toilet. Anyone who had nothing to do for a moment sought coolness in the shade of the crane. And in the meantime, Tim taught us the wisdom: you can’t push with a line.
Afterwards, we were able to go straight to the prize-giving ceremony. Reigning European champion Fraporita was allowed to take the challenge trophy home immediately. The French team Jazzy finished in second place, and the Italians from team Pestifera took third place. Congratulations!
All in all, it was an amazing European Championship, with four full days of sailing, summery weather, and above all: a mega-friendly class. Thanks to the organizers of the NSR and the European Championship, thanks to all the volunteers, and most importantly: thanks to all the sailors who made this weekend such a success!

NSR zondag dag 2
(English below)
Dag twee van het EK bracht nog meer zon, zee en zeilen. Na het zeer geslaagde tentfeest met Vangrail stond iedereen toch vanochtend weer fris en fruitig op de steiger. De stroming was vandaag een nog grotere uitdaging dan gisteren.
In de voorhoede was de spanning om te snijden. Jazzy won uiteindelijk de eerste wedstrijd, de tweede wedstrijd werd gewonnen door Jadten.
Tijdens de laatste wedstrijd zakte de wind er steeds verder uit. Terwijl de eerste boten finishten, vocht een handjevol boten om elke meter bij de bovenboei. Maar elke paar meter die je vooruitkwam, zette de stroom je weer weg. Eén team rondde zelfs de bovenboei, maar haalde daarna de spreader niet. Fraporita won wederom de laatste wedstrijd en leidt nog steeds het klassement.
NSR Sunday day 2
Day two of the European Championships brought even more sun, sea and sailing. After the very successful tent party with Vangrail, everyone was fresh and fruity on the jetty this morning. The current was an even bigger challenge today than yesterday.
The tension in the vanguard was palpable. Jazzy eventually won the first match, the second match was won by Jadten.
During the last race the wind dropped further and further. As the first boats finished, a handful of boats fought for every meter at the top mark. But every few meters you advanced, the current pushed you away again. One team even rounded the top mark, but then failed to reach the spreader. Fraporita again won the last match and still leads the rankings.

NSR Zaterdag dag 1 (english below)
Dag 1 van het EK begon met… uitstel! De bemanning van de Katapult maakte van de nood een deugd en gooide een SUP in het water. De rest van de crews wachtte rustig in de schaduw op de D-vlag.
In een avontuurlijk sleepje van meer dan tien J’s voeren we vervolgens na een klein uurtje de haven uit. Het was vandaag een kwestie van constant veranderende stroming, wind, land- en zee-effecten slim inschatten.
De Jabbadabbadoo had dat goed in de smiezen en ging er met de eerste winst vandoor. Het startschip had de vaart er goed in, en we konden net wat water drinken en een nieuwe laag zonnebrand smeren voor de volgende start.
De tweede wedstrijd won Pestifera, een van de Italiaanse teams. De derde wedstrijd volgde ook snel en werd gewonnen door Fraporita, die nu ook het klassement leidt. Onze twee fotografen legden alle actie prachtig vast – zelfs vanuit de lucht!
‘ s Avonds verzamelden alle J22-zeilers zich op de bovenverdieping van Villani voor een stijlvol klassediner. Compleet met een tafelschikking, drie gangen en speciale bierviltjes. Daarna door naar het tentfeest met de rest van de NSR. Al met al een zeer geslaagde eerste wedstrijddag!
Day 1 of the European Championship started with… a delay! The crew of Katapult made the best of the situation and threw a SUP in the water. The rest of the crews waited patiently in the shade for the D-flag.
In an adventurous tow of more than ten J’s, we eventually headed out of the harbour after about an hour. Today was all about constantly reading shifting currents, wind, and land- and sea-effects.
Jabbadabbadoo had it figured out and took the first win. The race committee kept up a good pace, and we barely had time to drink some water and apply another layer of sunscreen before the next start.
The second race was won by Pestifera, one of the Italian teams. The third race followed quickly and was won by Fraporita, who now also leads the overall standings. Our two photographers captured all the action beautifully — even from the air!
In the evening, all J/22 sailors gathered on the upper floor of Villani for an elegant class dinner. Complete with a seating arrangement, three courses and special beer mats. Afterwards on to the tent party with the rest of the NSR. All in all, a very successful first racing day!
